FUNCTION

The Local Police in Benitachell exercise their functions in several different areas.

- Police Administration, for the byelaws and other local orders and provisions within their jurisdiction.
- Traffic Police, Controlling and directing traffic in the area, as well as dealing with accidents.
- Rendering Police Assistance, child protection and care of victims of domestic violence and, of course other problems which create public alarm and demand a police response.
- Judicial Police, as provided in Art. 29.2 of Organic Law 2 / 1986 of law enforcement agencies.
- Security Police, carrying out actions to prevent the commission of criminal acts within the framework of cooperation established in the Local Security Board. In this section, the Local Police Corps conducts its business in a joint fashion, with effective cooperation and coordination with the Guardia Civil in Javea.

Generic functions.

Organic Law 2 / 1986, Title V, Local Police, Art 53. authorises functions which are:

a) To protect the local authorities and monitor and guard its buildings, property and facilities.
b) order, and direct the traffic, as laid down in the law and rules of the road.
c) Deal with traffic accidents within the town.
d) Administration duties, with respect to local laws and other provisions within the municipal area of jurisdiction.
e) Participate in the functions of judicial police in the form set out in article 29.2 of Organic Law 2 / 1986 of March 13.
f) Provide assistance in the event of an accident, catastrophe or public calamity, by participating, in the manner provided by law, in implementing the civil protection plan.
g) Carry out any action aimed at preventing the commission of criminal acts within the framework of cooperation established in the Safety Board.
h) To monitor public spaces and work with the Security Forces of the State in maintaining order, when required to do so.
i) Work with the unit attached to the Police in the Autonomous Region in their functions, when required to do so.
j) To cooperate in the resolution of private disputes when required to do so.
k) Other provisiona which may be attributed to the law applicable to the local police.

Specific Functions

In addition to the generic functions listed, the Local Police in Benitachell have specialists dedicated to the prevention and relief of victims of domestic violence. There are also the agents engaged in surveillance of fly tipping and abandoned vehicles. A newly created group is dedicated to the road safety education for schoolchildren in Santa María Magdalena School.
