Municipal Music School
Information and History. The Benitachell municipal school of music was formed for musical education in 1984 under a single teacher, D. Vicente Ivars Ferrer, who was the director of our band for many years.
Nowadays, the director is D. Antonio Jose Catalá Buigues, and there are seventeen teachers, offering elementary degrees and covering the theoretical specialities of musical garden 1 º and 2 º, initiation to the music 1 º and 2 º, musical language 1 º, 2 º, 3 º, 4 º, musical language for adults, and coral music. The instrumental specialities are: wind brass (trumpet, horn, trombonist and tuba), wind wood (flute, oboe, clarinet and saxophone), percussion, piano, guitar and “dolçaina-tabalet”.
Apart of the above mentioned subjects, they promote practise in groups, like the parochial choir, which takes part both in religious liturgies and in non religious concerts. The school also run the infant and juvenile bands, that take part in productions such as the concert of Santa Cecilia, Christmas activities, the carnival parade for the college, concerts at the end of the school year, the parade of the Moors and Christians, and others, both in Benitachell and in other localities. Also a choir is formed from the youngest pupils of the school. There’s already a " colla of dolçainers " even in training, but they already have taken part in some events with success. (The " dolçaina i tabalet" are instruments of the Valencian Community and it is our duty to promote them.) Also, there are two teachers of “traditional dance", ballet and modern dance. The dance is always linked with the music and with the "traditional dances" they trys to promote a repertiore of dances that are traditional in Valencia. This is to ensure that they do not dissapear from the community in which people from so many countries and different cultures can enjoy our ancient culture. We should mention that our Traditional Dance Group has already taken part in shows, both in Benitachell and in other villages. There is a group of English an German people, who practice the „american square dance“. The main purpose of the school of music is to promote musical culture in our village, promoting the traditional arts, both in dance and the music, and supplying musicians for our municipal Band "Santa María Magdalena de Benitachell". The school of music, is has approximately one hundred and eighty pupils of music, and around ninety pupils of dance, from the age of four years up to well beyond retirement.
