The Padrón (Local Census)

Information The Padrón EU Residents
The Doctor

The padrón is the official census of the number of residents in the municipal area and is very important because it is used to calculate our service levels and government grants. People listed on the padrón are also entitled to vote in both local and European elections.

To get entered on the padrón (this is free) you simply visit the 1st floor reception at the Town Hall with the following documents:

Passport
Escritura (deeds to your house) or Rental Contract
NIE Form
Residencia or Certificate of EU Resident Registration

(Note: If you are not yet registered on the EU Resident Database, you may produce your passport in lieu of this certificate BUT your name will be removed from the padron if you do not produce a certificate within a period of 3 months.)

Ask to be placed on the padrón and it will be done there and then. Also ask to be entered on the voters' register....this is a separate form.

A few days after registration, if you require one, you will be able to collect your padrón certificate from the Town Hall. There is a small charge for this. You may need this for certain official transactions, such as registering a car or entering into a contract. Although your padrón registration is permanent, the certificates have a shelf life of 90 days, so only get one when you need it.

The following form is used to confirm your continued residence for padrón purposes, if you have received a letter advising you to do so.
