The Doctor
Doctor, doctor...”tengo dolor” ... y no hablo Español .

Almost 20 years ago, former nurse Jenny Bussey from Parcent, published her invaluable booklet  “Tell the Doctor.. “, a Spanish-English medical phrase booklet designed to help ex-pats with limited Spanish to get acquainted with the National Health Service in Spain.

Jenny, a Parcent town councillor, and fluent Spanish speaker, compiled it when she realised her local medical centre doctors were wondering how they could communicate better with their growing number of english-speaking patients

The small booklet includes lots of information about how to use Spain's health and social services as well as about chemist services, private medicine, becoming a resident, repatriation, what to do when someone dies.. and much more.

“Tell the Doctor” will be sufficient in the majority of cases but throughout the book  we emphasise the importance of using  an inerpreter if there is a serious illness to deal with. Never presume the doctor will speak  English, many do but still be reluctant to use it.

There are four booklets available:

English to Spanish: "Tell the Doctor"
Dutch to Spanish: "Vertel de Dokter"
German to Spanish: "Sag's dem Arzt"
Fench to Spanish: "Dites-le au Docteur"

All three booklets are available at 5 Euros each from "Humpty Dumpty", in Javea - Avda del Pla 133 (Tel. 96 579 0955).

Further information is available from Guillermo Pragt, Councilor for integration, at the Town Hall, on Thursday and Friday mornings.
